In-person research

On the road, in a pharmacy, or in our labs, our goal for in-person research is the same: to capture the best data possible.

We incorporate multiple strategies to encourage natural-use behavior in our testing environments. Our experienced UX lab experts design and build labs to capture every key user interaction with your product or device.

What does a lab session look like?

Whether you’re behind the glass on location, or observing from your home office via live stream, you won’t miss out on the incredible insights that are gained from watching users interact with your product. Get ready for the ‘aha’ moments!

Depending on test stimuli, our cameras capture the user interaction and participant reaction.

Observe behavior and interactions with your product/device while users perform tasks.
Simulate environments – context matters!
Rapidly iterate designs

During all test sessions, moderators are supported by observing teams if additional probing is needed or questions by your team arise. Sessions can vary:

Individual session

A typical user research session is a one-on-one simulated use test or interview with a participant and moderator.

Dyad

Testing may benefit from dyad sessions. This might be a parent and child or doctor and assistant. The moderator navigates this session to gain insight from both participants.

Small group

Small groups (3-5 participants) are sometimes used in UX research, however, these are generally used in combination with individual sessions.

Focus groups

We find a focus group style session (generally 6-8 participants) is helpful when a panel of experts is needed.

Mobile app research

  • Cameras are positioned to stream every device interaction and participant reaction
  • We mirror and record device screens so our team and stakeholders capture every user interaction with your app
  • Our expert moderator observes behavior, probes to understand confusion, paths, and user mental model

In-home simulated research

  • With our simulated labs, we can recreate any in-home setup at our facility or external facilities
  • We ensure participant reaction, device or interface interaction, and screen is captured to stream to observers and record for review

In-car research

  • Cameras are positioned in the vehicle to capture interface interactions and driver reaction
  • Whether on the road, in a parking lot, or at the dealership we can stream the research session to remote observers
  • Our expert moderator observes behavior, probes to understand confusion, paths, and user mental model

Medical device

  • We can conduct medical device testing in a typical lab setup or in a variety of simulated use settings
  • For less complex use environments, simulated use testing can be conducted right in our labs
  • Our partnerships with local simulation labs facilitate creation of high-fidelity clinical settings when needed

Mobile app research

  • Cameras are positioned to stream every device interaction and participant reaction
  • We mirror device screen to observers and recording to capture every user interaction with your app
  • Our expert moderator observes behavior, probes to understand confusion, paths, and user mental model

Medical device

  • We can conduct medical device and support materials testing in a typical lab setup or in a variety of simulated research settings
  • Our partnerships with local simulated labs facilitate access to any in-hospital settings needed.

The art of asking “why” in user research: 3 lessons from a toddler

Anyone who has spent time with an inquisitive toddler knows how persistently they ask “Why?” about anything and everything. As researchers, we have important lessons to learn from their curiosity: 1. Toddlers’ questioning feels repetitive and bombarding; asking “why” requires tact. Think back to...
