Case study
Improve accessibility compliance of menstrual tracking app
Challenge
A women’s health company wanted to ensure its menstrual and ovulation tracking platform met key accessibility standards. To support inclusive access for users with disabilities, they needed to assess the app’s conformance to the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Solution
We conducted a detailed heuristic evaluation, using a WCAG-based scorecard to assess four key accessibility standards: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. Our researchers completed multiple walkthroughs of the onboarding and symptom-logging journeys, flagging issues that could hinder access for users with physical or cognitive impairments.
Impact
We confirmed strong accessibility practices such as high contrast text and the absence of seizure-triggering content. However, we also identified critical gaps, including limited assistive tech support, inaccessible text elements, and inconsistent explanation of medical terms. These findings gave the client clear priorities to improve usability and achieve full compliance.
Bold Outcomes
- Benchmarked app against WCAG and EAA standards
- Identified missing features critical to assistive tech users
- Highlighted terminology and UI issues that impact access
- Delivered focused recommendations to close accessibility gaps
Result
The company left with a clear understanding of where to invest next to create a more inclusive experience, and how to meet international accessibility standards more effectively.
