Bold Insight to instruct EPIC tutorial on AI research tools

Next month, Lindsey DeWitt Prat, PhD, Director at Bold Insight, will lead a tutorial presented by EPIC exploring how ethnographers can stay grounded in human insight while navigating the growing pressure to adopt AI tools. Her session, Your tech stack needs a thinking stack: Building a high-value ethnographic practice in the AI era, will equip researchers with a practical framework for deciding how and when to integrate AI into their work. 

“As AI becomes embedded in our workflows, it’s easy to focus on what the tools do,” said DeWitt Prat. “But the deeper question is how they shape the way we think, connect, and create meaning. This tutorial is about making intentional choices that preserve the integrity of ethnographic work while embracing new possibilities.” 

Participants will explore the social and cognitive dynamics of human-AI interaction, consider how core ethnographic values can inform tool adoption, and learn how to evolve their ‘thinking stacks’ to ensure the quality, value, and future of their work. 

This marks DeWitt Prat’s third speaking engagement with EPIC. In May, she participated in a virtual discussion on generative AI in ethnographic research, and last August, she presented her published paper on AI research in African contexts at EPIC2024 in Los Angeles.
