This week, Bold Insight Managing Partner Korey Johnson will deliver the keynote lecture at the Advanced Usability Seminar, a core session of K-Medtech Insight, South Korea’s largest medical device forum. The seminar is hosted by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute and organized by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH), a government-designated usability test center and the chair institution of the Korean Society for Medical Device Usability, a consortium of 22 specialized institutions dedicated to usability testing across Korea.
The seminar, themed “Closing the gap: U.S. medical device usability regulatory compliance and submission strategies,” will take place September 15 and 16 at EL Tower in Yangjae, Seoul, bringing together stakeholders from usability test centers and Korean medical device manufacturers. Johnson’s talk will address the role of human factors engineering in FDA submissions, case studies from real-world U.S. usability evaluations, and strategies for responding to recent FDA guidance.
“This is an opportunity to go beyond regulatory checklists and talk directly with those evaluating usability on the ground in Korea,” said Johnson. “Bridging FDA expectations with local practice is the kind of work that helps manufacturers get it right the first time.”
The presentation builds on an established partnership between Bold Insight and SNUBH announced last year. The collaboration helps Korean medical device manufacturers navigate U.S. market entry, with SNUBH supporting formative work in Korea and Bold Insight leading U.S. summative studies to provide continuity across the development process.
Johnson regularly contributes his expertise to conversations advancing the human factors field. This past March, he led a panel at the 2026 HFES Health Care Symposium with global research partners from South Korea, China, and Japan to address the realities of conducting human factors evaluations across Asia.
