Bold Insight to present on AI translation at UXinsight Festival

April 8, 2025

This month, Lindsey DeWitt Prat, PhD, Director at Bold Insight, will speak at the 9th annual UXinsight Festival in the Netherlands. The event brings together user experience (UX) experts to explore this year’s theme, “Raising the Bar,” a call to action to push boundaries, challenge norms, and elevate the field of UX research.

In her talk, Lost in Translation: AI, Language Gaps, and the Role of UX Research, DeWitt Prat will present on how AI tools, often built on English-centric data sets, can unintentionally reinforce language barriers. She will discuss how to identify language divides and share practical strategies for conducting culturally and linguistically sensitive UX research, drawing on insights from her peer-reviewed publication, Decolonizing LLMs: An Ethnographic Framework for AI in African Contexts.

“As researchers, we’re in a unique position to advocate for change,” said DeWitt Prat. “By asking thoughtful questions and highlighting cultural gaps, we can guide teams toward more inclusive and representative research practices.”

DeWitt Prat regularly presents her influential work in global UX research. Most recently, she joined AI experts to address the evolution of data rights in the global digital economy at the AI for Developing Countries Forum 2025 Geneva Summit, where she was appointed as a Senior Fellow.

The UXinsight Festival 2025 will be held April 14–16 in Leiden, the Netherlands. DeWitt Prat’s session is scheduled from 14:00–14:30 on Tuesday, April 15. Visit the event website to learn more.
