This month, Bold Insight will present at the 14th International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care. The event will connect human factors experts, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, biomedical engineers, health care providers, FDA representatives, and patient safety researchers to learn insights on the latest science and best practices in human factors and health care. It aims to enhance the understanding of innovations in the safety of healthcare providers and patients, sharpen the focus of HF/E initiatives, and foster improvements in regulatory approaches.
Bold Insight team members will present the following oral and poster sessions:
- “This Would Never Happen in My Hospital” – The Importance of Adjusting Your Simulated Use Environment Based on Participant Feedback (Jonathan Carlson, ICU Medical, Coleen Long, Kaitlin Carter)
- Discovering Acceptable Injection Force Through Magnitude Estimation and Force Profiles (Elizabeth Enright, Riley Maguire, Stephanie Wiltman, Christina Ambrose)
- Human Factors Meets Design Validation: Creating Efficiencies While Meeting Requirements for Both Disciplines (Shelby Long, PhD, Stryker, Vandhana Narayanan, Stryker, Stephanie Wiltman)
- Incorporating Recommendations From the FDA’s Recent Final Guidance on Cybersecurity Risks in Medical Devices Into Your Human Factors Engineering Process (Kaitlin Stinson)
- Planning and Operational Considerations for Conducting Human Factors Studies With Cadavers and Tissue Samples (Patrick McCormack, Ryan Carney)
- The Dilemma of Task Prompt Wording in HF Validation: History, Challenges, and Strategies for Success (James Kershner)
- Warm Up to Clarity: Iconography in Temperature Communication on Combination Products and Medical Devices (Ashley Morris, AbbVie, Amrish Chourasia, AbbVie, James Kershner, Christina Ambrose, Jordan Hilgers)
- Navigating Sensitive Health Topics and Tasks in Human Factors Testing: Strategies for Research Validity and Participant Well-Being (Christopher Valek, Genentech (Roche), Kaitlin Stinson)
During the exhibition, Bold Insight’s booth will feature an educational, interactive game that navigates through the pivotal milestones of human factors history. From the foundational theories that shaped early thinking to the sophisticated applications of today, the activity provides a thorough exploration of the discipline’s evolution. Participants matching historical milestones correctly will not only deepen their appreciation for the impact of human factors but also win rad retro-themed prizes.
The 2025 HFES International Symposium will be held from March 30 to April 2 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Visit the event website to register and learn more.
